Tuscany part 7: My 28th Birthday at Volpaia!

I woke up this morning intending to share with you some moments from my 28th birthday which was definitely the strangest birthday till now. Why? Well this is the last year or better the last week i’m living in Florence after 8 years of studies. I might have 2 exams left but i’m leaving my house here and I move permanently in Athens. So these last days here are so difficult and emotional for me. So many things to do and no time for doing even the half of them. So this morning I ended up looking photos from my previous birthdays in Florence, so many different people in them, dearest friends, friends of friends, some of them total strangers but all of them people i’ll never forget.

But let’s go back to yesterday. Me Nikos, Robert and Elena went for lunch at Volpaia, an amazing fortified village of medieval origin, situated between Radda in Chianti and Panzano in Chianti. So for lunch we went at Bar Ucci, owned by Paola the most welcoming hostess, she will always find a table one way or another, and her mother Gina in the kitchen, the funniest tuscan lady!

When we got there the weather was good, then it started raining so we were not able to go for a walk outside the village, but seeing Volpaia only was more than enough! On our way back to Florence the weather changed again so we stopped to take a small walk and enjoy our last moments in magical Tuscany.

High water..

Hi everyone! My mother just called asking if Arno overflowed. Well this last week it’s raining continuously and in Pisa the situation was critical. The bridges closed 2 days ago, blocking access to the city and they put bulkheads along the river. In Florence there isn’t that risk (yet!) but the water is really high. So yesterday I decided to take a break from studying and see how things stand by the river. Those of you who know the city can definitely understand the difference!

An ordinary Tuesday..

Today I was at the university as every Tuesday. It rained like always and at some point I noticed the amazing lit sky. So I ran to the top floor of the faculty to capture this moment, unfortunately I missed a double rainbow seen only from the other side the building. After that I had an aperitivo with Nadia and Umberto and now i’m heading back home.

Below I share with you some photos from my Instagram profile. Buonanotte!

Souvenirs from Venice..

IMG_7558

At this day, exactly one year ago, I was at Venice with Chiara, Sara, Niccolò and Nikos for the Biennale of Architecture!

There are no words to describe this city, I think we all have an image in mind, but every time I visit Venice I discover something new!  I just love getting lost in the same alleys and find myself to the same channel or bridge again and again.. However, what fascinates me most is that this city is the same as it was five hundred years ago! The transportation is on foot or by boat, which adds to the romantic character of the city.

When you visit the Venice Biennale the fact is that you do not have much time to see the city, just in the afternoon on the way back completely tired but always with an appetite for a Spritz! Spritz is definitely my favorite beverage and in Venice you have to try it with Select instead of Aperol or Campari. There are two late-night (ok, not that late!) drinking areas in Venice, the one is Campo Santa Margherita and the other one is Erbaria close to Rialto bridge.

Soooo prepare to get lost at Venice and have a Spritz for me! Have a nice weekend everyone!

Neverending rain..

Snowy Sunday walk..

IMG_9721

These days it’s freezing outside and raining non stop.. So i’m stuck at home under the blankets drinking tea and watching movies.. This morning i woke up (late) and there were some sun rays outside.. I had to get out and enjoy it! When i was finally ready to leave the house the weather was rainy again.. 😦

So we decided to go out anyway and we headed towards Fiesole!

Fiesole is a town on a famously scenic height above Florence, 8 km (5 mi) NE of the city..

Missing Athens..

I’m feeling a little blue today.. I don’t know if this is due to the rainy weather, or if it’s ourani’s post that made me miss sooooo much my sunny Athens..

More than anything though, i miss the sea…

In Florence there is the Arno river, not exactly the same but still better than nothing!

So this cloudy morning i took a walk by the river..
