Site specific Valentine’s..

Goodmorning Valentines!!

How did you spend the world’s most commercial holiday..? Well, I have to admit that i’m not the kind that embraces the traditional Valentine’s day, but it’s a day that brings out mixed and different emotions for each of us.

I spent it with Nikos and Donatello and we’ve been to Onassis cultural centre and Candy Chang’s installation School of the Future, the first of her three site-specific installations in Athens.

The classroom reinterpreted without teachers, books or pupils. Visitors find themselves in a space with a school desk at one end surrounded by thousands of big, red balloons. They are invited to write down a lesson life has taught them in a notebook on the desk. In so doing, the visitors become teachers and students at one and the same time: by taking part in a school of collective experience in which the shared encyclopaedia of knowledge consists of the lessons of their individual lives, they can teach but they can also learn.

After all the fun we sat down and shared our thoughts in the collective notebook answering it’s 2 questions :

  • What do you think is important to teach our children?
  • What do you wish you learned while you were in school?

What do you think..?

A day at the museum..

IMG_7966_Snapseed

Good morning people! Last Sunday along with Chrysana, Phaedra, Maria and Stefanos we visited the Goulandris Natural History Museum.

Founded in 1965, is home to zoological, botanical, marine, rock, mineral and fossil specimens.

The G.N.H.M. is located in Kifissia, 14, N.E. of Athens. It is housed in an elegant neoclassical building of the 19th Century (1875) which was converted and expanded in order to satisfy the Museum’s educational and scientific requirements. It was the first museum of its kind to be established in 1964, and the first to initiate environmental education in the country.

Happy 2nd anniversary..!

IMG_7745_Snapseed

Hi everyone! I just realised that Urbanzip is 2 years old..!

The past 6 months we didn’t post as frequently as in the past, but this “neverending” transitional period makes it almost impossible to dedicate the time we would have liked.. So today i’m posting some pics from a beautiful stroll two days ago in the center of Athens, while I was searching urban planning material for my thesis. Looking forward to my graduation, than i’ll have all the time to explore my colourful city!

Happy anniversary!

Xmas mood –> ON!

IMG_7232_Snapseed

Hello everyone! After 2 months of work we finally managed to relax and arrange some things around the house. First thing on the list was to decorate our very first christmas tree! Among old and new ornaments, we made also our own handmade balls and delicious gingerbread cookies that one of our cat totally loves!

On Saturday it was also Niko’s birthday so some friends came over for drinks and karaoke! I prepared a red velvet cake, but it turned green (!?) so i poured some chocolate over to cover it.

Chickpeas..

IMG_6496_Snapseed

Lunch time! What are you cooking? I’m eating again the delicious chickpeas we cooked yesterday with Nikos! A really simple recipe, excluding the part where you have to “remember” to put them in the water from the night before.. I always forget that part!

First we boiled the chickpeas and then we cooked it in the oven, in a hull where we also added onions, fresh oregano from the garden, garlic and spinach leaves. After almost an hour it’s ready and you can add the lemon juice! Bon appetit!

Parov Stelar & Band..

Hi everyone!

I know it’s been quite some time since my last post but this transitional period from Florence to Athens was really strange and busy. Long story short, I’m back to Athens, working and I finally  have the time to go out! So 2 days ago I attended an amazing concert by Parov Stelar and his band!

The live started around 9 with the greek group Papercut and continued by the french Proleter, till finally around 22.30 the Austrian musician and his band appeared on stage. A great show, old and new sounds, a Led screen full of colors and a lot of dancing! Looking forward for their next visit!

By the sea..

All these years in Florence the thing I missed the most is definitely the sea. So now I’m back to Greece and finally sooooo close to the sea!
Today I spent the whole day swimming (first swim for this year) and finally dinning in a simple and wonderful place by the sea. Goodnight everyone!
