Xmas mood –> ON!

IMG_7232_Snapseed

Hello everyone! After 2 months of work we finally managed to relax and arrange some things around the house. First thing on the list was to decorate our very first christmas tree! Among old and new ornaments, we made also our own handmade balls and delicious gingerbread cookies that one of our cat totally loves!

On Saturday it was also Niko’s birthday so some friends came over for drinks and karaoke! I prepared a red velvet cake, but it turned green (!?) so i poured some chocolate over to cover it.

We were just walking and enjoying the sun! Then we went to eat something at The Diner, I love tis place!

Ines brought me a gift from Serbia, a chocolate (what else?) in a beautiful package.. Then we took a walk by the river and i had an accident with my camera 😦  Fortunately only the filter broke and the lens is intact! I will never forget the scared expression of Ines..

Urban Jungle..

Good morning everyone! At least for the ones who slept!

Tomorrow morning my friend Niccolò gets his degree, and the last few days I’ve practically moved in! The most important kind of assistance i think is the moral support, then you can always make a silly joke, cook something or even walk the dog (poor Nio)!

So here are some photos of this unique experience! Food, chocolate, wine, 5 minutes of sun and a lot of work! Good luck Niccoooo!!!!

Buongiorno a tutti!

Chocolatopolis..

2 years ago i went to Brussels with Nadia to see our friend Elisabetta who was there in Erasmus..

I don’t know how many of you have already been at this amazing capital, but i had no idea how the city was. So a few days before our departure i was out with some friends and they were telling me that it’s a boring city and that there is nothing to see except from Grand Place and the waffles of course! So i went with minimun expectations and of course i was pleasantly surprised! Not from the waffles, which by the way i didn’t eat as mush as i thought i would, but from everything else!

I really don’t know from where to start, the beers (whick i wasn’t a huge fan), the chocolate (addicted!), the Art Nouveau or the nightlife..

Day 1

Arrived at Brussels around 18:00 so we went directly at Elisabetta’s home to catch up! Then we went for dinner at a district full of little restaurants and bars. And after that we went at a party in an amazing typical belgian house!

Day 2

The weather was cloudy, so we decided to go for a chocolate! After that we visited Horta Museum. And then we were just wondering through the streets os Brussels! A stop to eat and drink something at Zebra, you have to visit this place! Then more walking, a stop for belgian fries and then we visited the famous Grand Place and the Manneken Pis. We had to stop for a beer! So we went at Archiduc, where there was a live performance, and then for dinner we went at a traditional restaurant for moules-frites, which are mussels cooked or steamed with onions and celery served with fries.…. Back at home preparing for a concert which ended at 7 o’clock in the morning!

Day 3

Woke up really late.. The weather was amazing! We went at the Marolles district, there was an enormous flea market that day. Then back to the center to have a waffle and a tea, and more walking. When you visit Brussels you have to go for a beer at Bonnefooi, definitely my favorite place in Brussels!

Day 4

Atomium day! Then we visited the European Quarter and then back at Zebra, for a delicious soup and an amazing atmosphere! Got back home really late so we decided to stay in our final night in Brussels, since we had an early flight.

Weekend full of spring..

Goodmorning everyone!!

How was your weekend..? Here in Florence the first signs of spring appeared!

When spring arrives Florence is stunning.. It’s definitely my favorite time of the year!

So Saturday i went for an “aperitivo” with my friends Elisabetta and Nadia at Volume a bar at Santo Spirito area.. Then we went for another drink with Nikos and Enrico at this new place called Quelo at Santa Croce area.. IMG_9962

With this amazing sun i got an appetite for a “gelato” (ice-cream), so we went to one of my favorite places called Gelateria de’Medici which is a bit outside the city center, close to Fortezza da Basso.. It’s not a place you will find in a travel guide, but  it is definitely among my 3 favorite places for gelato! They have many and unique flavours, so you won’t be disappointed! My favorite is Crema de’ Medici, their own cream with a fair amount of chocolate of course!

Souffle Banoffee

ylika

_________

Late at night on Monday I was watching videos about cooking on youtube. Somewhere between Jamie Oliver and Stelios Parliaros, I found the recipe that Akis Petretzikis showed on tv on Valentine’s Day. Souffle banoffee. It sounds divine. And it actually is.

My friend L. and I were thinking about this recipe for the following days, so she invited me to cook. Actually, she was cooking and I was taking photos.

We used eggs, boiled sugar milk that was transformed into caramel, flour, flakes of black and white chocolate, banana and butter.

Here you can read the ingredients and the instructions with details.

I start to think that the recipes we make with good company are the most delicious! 😉

This post and this song are dedicated to L., who is the biggest fan of The Beatles!

Pre-exam night…

Hi everyone!

It’s dinner time! Today I had dinner earlier than usual.. N prepared pasta with zucchini, one of my favorite pasta recipes!

What are your plans for dinner?

IMG_3242

Coffee is not my thing, but after meals is a must! And since this night will be really looooooong (exam tomorrow morning 😦 ), i prepared a classic “Moka Espresso”…

IMG_3240

IMG_3241

Now i’m back to study and i have this chocolate in front of me.. The last left from my sweet package, remember???

Eat it now or save it for later..? A really hard decision since it’s the only chocolate in the house!

Hearts in Athens

valentine's

Hope

__________

Valentine’s Day is kind of grotesque; on the one hand the rιdiculous Jumbo advertisements playing on the radio, on the other hand this sudden “attack” of heart-shaped chocolates, lollipops, macaroons, cakes, pizzas (!) and other potential gifts, which began almost two weeks ago, struggling violently to integrate us into an atmosphere that this city, especially this year, seems to totally ignore!

My personal experiences from Valentine’s days are also kind of funny. I just mention that the first gift I was ever given for Valentine’s was destroyed almost immediately! Today, irony started early. First “gala happening” of the day: I am in a courtroom where divorce cases are heard. I think, with a bit of cynicism, that by some people this day will be celebrated in different way, either by celebrating their freedom from their ex husbands and wives, or by being extremely sad. Unfortunately real life does not count on the Saint of Love. On the contrary, it seems to despise and spit him in his face.

The entire city is trying to pretend that it is celebrating and get in the mood. Where actually did the joyful and festive atmosphere of Athens go? I remember five (already!) years ago, that the city was decorated with hearts, due to an exhibition called Hearts in Athens. There were hearts everywhere, original and special, inspired by various artists, exhibited in various locations. We did not like them, we used to growl about them, as we always do. It was a pleasant time though, definitely not because of the exhibition.

Although we left behind our over-consuming tendency (I am afraid that is because we ran out of money and not because we actually want it), this day still makes want to either grumble and mock others who -supposedly- celebrate or to buy something, even the smallest kind of candy, that you can share with your colleagues, friends or boyfriend/girlfriend.  However, you won’t manage not to deal with this day (unless you do not have the luxury to do so). It is rather consoling to know that in other countries the day is celebrated much more intensively that in Greece, almost kind of obsessively. Here we seem to be cool about it. However, most of my friends-couples usually make some special plan for Valentine’s day, despite they do not admit that they like it.

In any case, today’s celebration is an opportunity to laugh (with the awesome “gifts”), eat any dessert you want, be romantic and -why not? – give a touch of eroticism to this city, which definitely needs it. Oh, and to ourselves who need it too.

And a special dedication because of the day, by Zooey Dechanel! 🙂
